The house was built in 1863 for entrepreneur Maurice Marx from London, one of the most important investors in private residence construction in Homburg at the time. In 1866, Heinrich Christian Dannhof appears as the owner, who ran the Dannhof photography studio on Herrngasse Road. Jacob Huff is first documented as the owner in 1876. The villa was renovated and expanded by Christian Holler in 1870 and 1891. As of 1883, it appears as “Villa Huff” or “Haus Huff” in the spa guest lists. In 1898, a third level was added to the building. The back-facing side buildings were built from 1886 until 1899, including the Huff photography studio which no longer exists.
