Neurological Hospital (Hirnverletztenheim)

On 1 October 1946, the Frankfort association Hirnverletztenheim (Brain Injury Institution) rented the Villa Wertheimber, built in 1898-1899, and set up a “Sanatorium for Persons with Brain, Spinal, and Nerve Injuries”. The two barracks adjacent to the clinic originating during the Nazi era served as refugee homes. Beginning in 1950, one of them could finally be used for long-term patients and replaced by a modern ward with treatment rooms in 1958. In 1969, the facility was renamed the “Neurological Clinic – Institute for Rehabilitation”. Extensive reconstruction and renovation measures were carried out in 1999. Nonetheless, the clinic was closed in 2003.
