Baker Emil Pauly had opened a zwieback factory in Homburg in 1903, which he sold to Adolf Schwab in 1910. Schwab took over the nine-employee operation and converted from manual processes to machine production. To expand the range of products, pretzels were then produced in addition to the zwieback. Gingerbread (lebkuchen) was also sold in the 1950s. At this time, the company had around 80 employees. A continuous decline in demand led to the sale of the company in 1963.
