Timeline of Building History

Salt Well

The Solesprudel Spring was bored in 1851-1854 and then analyzed by pharmacist Dr. Julius Hoffmann. Due to the high chlorine and carbon dioxide content, he did not see any use for it in the drinking spa treatment popular at the time, rather it could only be used as a gas and bathing spring. In 1898, the “Sprudel” Spring was bored again by engineer Prof. Steiner from Prague, which caused a 12-meter high fountain to spring up. The water was then directed straight from the spring to the new Kaiser-Wilhelms-Bad (Emperor Wilhelm Spa). Around 1960-61, another deep hole was drilled. Even today, its brine baths are used to treat dermatological conditions, such as neurodermatitis and psoriasis.
