Dyer and businessman Jacob Küchel set up a steam wash in 1883 in the half-timbered house at Louisenstraße 21, which was built in 1843. Steam washes made it possible to professionally clean the enormous numbers of bath and hand towels, tablecloths, bedclothes, and other textiles used by the hotels and spas.
