The Seedammbad swimming baths were built in 1927 according to designs drawn up by architectural advisor Dr. Ludwig Lipp. This was preceded by discussion about a large public park with swimming baths in the Kleiner Tannenwald (Small Fir Forest) park, but the relocation of the water treatment plant to Obereschbach tipped the scales for the location in Gonzenheim. The opening of the baths at the end of May 1927 accompanied the founding of the “Homburg Swimming Club” (HSC). The baths were operated by Seedammbad GmbH, which consisted of Homburg dignitaries and the city. The global economic crisis getting underway made operating the baths difficult in the beginning and nearly led to bankruptcy. In 1932, the city took over management of the facility, but the bankruptcy proceedings went ahead, and sole ownership of the baths was transferred to the city in 1941. After many renovations, extensions and building a water fountain system, an indoor swimming pool was added in 1968. In 1987, the Seedammbad swimming baths were modernized and converted into a sports and water park, because the Taunus Therme thermal baths, which opened in 1980, represented a challenger not to be underestimated.
