The Forstgarten (Forest Garden) in its current form was created by Landgrave Friedrich VI and Landgravine Elisabeth as another design element for the Tannenwaldallee Road. A similar kind of garden probably existed long before 1800, possibly as a so-called pleasure garden in another location. The Forstgarten (Forest Garden) between the Großer Tannenwald (Great Fir Forest) and the Hirschgarten (Deer Garden), whose creation was projected for 1823, was however delayed until the summer of 1825 due to administrative conflicts. The Forstgarten combines an idyllic garden design with its functional use as a plant nursery, where not only exotic, but also local plants are cultivated. The center of the garden is a pond with the picturesquely situated Teehaus (Tea House). Around 1962, the city acquired the garden, which had become overgrown in the meantime, and carried out extensive restorations, which were able to come close to approximating its original state.
