In 1894, Julius Strauß, a member of the Homburg Jewish community born in 1854, bought the house at Kaiser-Friedrich-Promenade 22, which was designed by Heusinger von Waldegg. As this was a spa villa, he ran a spa guesthouse and rented rooms. From 1900 until 1912, he also ran a restaurant specializing in dietetic cuisine for the treatment of gastric, intestinal, and metabolic illnesses.
