Zwieback Factory J.F. Pauly

In 1834, Jean Ferdinand Pauly founded a zwieback factory in Kirdorf, which he still ran out of his home in 1892. In 1924, he merged with the Henry Pauly factory founded in Dornholzhausen in 1892. Around the turn of the century, after diets like Dr. Pariser’s “Homburg diet” and spa and drinking treatments had been established for the treatment of digestive and metabolic complaints, zwieback production became a centerpiece of the food production in Homburg at the end of the 19th century. However, after the Second World War demand dropped significantly, the gradual reduction leading the company to its closing in 1964.
