Timeline of Building History

Hotel Rheinischer Hof (Hotel Prince of Wales)

Master builder Johannes Sauer built the building at Louisenstraße 86 in 1855. It was stylistically based on the buildings of Edmund Heusinger von Waldegg. In 1862, it was extended by building on the property at no. 88, and “Hotel Rheinischer Hof” was opened. It was renamed “Hotel Prince of Wales” in 1883. The Obertaunus district administration moved into the building, which was renovated for this purpose and extended to no. 90, in 1887. It also became the office of the district savings bank in 1907. In the course of the Hessian regional reform in 1972, it became the seat of the newly founded district of Hochtaunus. In 2010, the building was torn down, and the Louisen-Center shopping mall was built in its place.
