The villa was built in 1843-45 as a four-story classicistic cube for the merchant Carl Friedrich Birkenstock. In the 1850s as well as in 1901, many renovations were carried out, in which the Homburg architects Christian Holler and Louis Jacobi were involved. At the latest in 1874, ownership of the building was transferred to Wilhelm Lommel, whose widow Elisabeth set up a spa guesthouse in the house in 1886. In around 1901, the villa was taken over by Friedrich Debus, the owner of the Villa am Kurpark, and starting in 1902, it was listed in the spa guest lists as “Villa Nova”.
