“Hotel Europäischer Hof” was one of the early spa hotels in Homburg and was built right next to the Kurhaus spa in 1848. Like many buildings at that time, it was already considered old-fashioned in the 1880s, and the city administration went into deliberations in December 1889 on erecting a post office instead of a hotel (minutes of meeting on 12 December 1889, A 03 14f no. 3 (box 143)). The building was torn down in 1890, and the Imperial Post Office was built three years later.
