The building, which was commissioned by entrepreneur Maurice Marx, was interestingly owned by the photographer Dannhofer in 1866 and went to his competitor, Jakob Huff, in 1870 at the latest but probably much earlier. The new owner had it renovated and enlarged many times, adding his own studio building and several other adjacent buildings in 1897. In 1891, the house was dubbed “Villa Huff”, a further indication that it was not only used as a residence, but was also rented to guests during the spa season. As of 1910, Heinrich Ludwig Huff is no longer listed as a photographer in the address book, rather only as the owner of a spa villa.
