Palm House

The Palmenhaus (Palm House) was built in 1857-58, an iron-and-glass structure modern for the era. It was not only used to accommodate the palm tree collection and other exotic plants, but also as a social club. An impressive, covered corridor, the so-called “Colonnade” or “Wandelhalle” (lobby), connected the Palmenhaus to the Elisabethenbrunnen spring. When the spring was completely redesigned in 1916-1919, the lobby was demolished, and in 1918, the Palmenhaus was torn down.
