The many English spa guests brought their English sports with them. The first tennis club on the European continent was thus founded in 1876, two years after the beginnings of “lawn tennis” in Homburg. At the same time, many lawn areas were created in the Kurpark spa park and can be seen in a photograph from 1876, presumably the oldest photographs in the world depicting the game of tennis. Some of the lawn courts were converted into hard courts in 1894, which meant that tournaments could also be held there afterwards, which soon became very popular. A clubhouse with stands was first built in 1913.
