Golf Club

Golf was already being played in the Kurpark in 1889, but a planned golf course was first mentioned in the minutes of the meeting of the City Spa and Bathing Administration on 7 May 1892, when the later administrator of the tennis courts, Wilhelm Noss, made a request to build a cottage on the golf course. Over the next few years, the course was expanded south of the Brunnenallee Road, and now British spa guests, above all the Scottish Major General Robert William Duff, first appeared as applicants. The Homburg golf course is the second oldest on the European continent, after the older course in the Pau region of France. The Homburg golf club was founded in 1899, with mainly the English nobility taking part. Edward, the Prince of Wales at that time, was the honorary chairman of the club. At first, the golfers were happy with a small clubhouse, which was replaced by a more impressive clubhouse in 1902. By 1913, the number of members had grown to 3,000. Nonetheless, the club places great store in its exclusivity, even into the present. In 2013, the club received permission from Queen Elizabeth II to use the honorific “royal”. The “New Course” was laid out in the Röderwiesen Park in 1981.
