The Samariterbrunnen (Samaritan Spring) was donated by Homburg citizen Dr. Carl Kaufmann and his wife Mathilde. In 1915, he commissioned the Berlin sculptor Hugo Kaufmann to create a sculptural group greater than life size made of Untersberg marble. The scene, behind a flat fountain basin, depicts the old man from Samaria providing refreshment and aid to the Roman soldier. The fountain was dedicated to the Samaritans of the First World War and was dedicated on 10 May 1917.
