Leopold's Temple (Tempel "Der stillen Tugend")

The small, classicistic, wooden temple with five columns was located at the head of the Obeliskenschneise path, which runs south of the Elisabethenschneise path, beginning in 1790 at the latest. Landgrave Friedrich V had it erected and dedicated to “The Quiet Virtue”. The death of Prince Leopold in 1813 in the Napoleonic Wars, which led to an intense culture of remembrance within the Landgrave’s family, also resulted in the rededication of the temple on the 100th anniversary of his death in 1913, which can be seen in the inscription from that time. The building collapsed in 1973 and was not rebuilt.
