Elisabeth Stone (Eschbachstein)

The Elisabethenstein (Elisabeth Stone) was originally called the Eschbachstein (Eschbach Stone), after the stream flowing nearby. In 1822, it became smaller due to an explosion and was named after the English Landgravine Elizabeth. For Landgrave Friedrich VI, it was important, in addition to marking the enduring remembrance of his wife, to create a prominent viewing point, which was part of the design of the “Elisabethenschneise” path as the end point of the Tannenwaldallee Road and thus became a point of interest for locals as well as for spa guests.
