The spa physician Dr. Karl Lommel had his practice at Mühlberg 13 and was active there starting around 1878. In 1885, he expanded his practice into a sanatorium, which he extended into the neighboring building at Mühlberg 11 a year later. In 1888, he bought the villa at Kaiser-Friedrich-Promenade 43, which the architect Louis Jacobi designed for casino inspector Pierre Jacques Duché as one of his first private residence projects in 1863. The sanatorium was still at the same address in 1916.
