Louise Fountain (Schwefelquelle)

The Louisenbrunnen spring, named for the wife of Landgrave Gustav, was drilled in 1856-57. Due to its high sulfur content, it was originally called the “Schwefelquelle” (Sulfur Spring). In 1865, a cast-iron temple was built over the spring, which bore the name “Louisenbrunnen” in simple letters. Over time, the water was no longer considered suitable for European tastes, the spring deteriorated noticeably, and the temple was torn down in 1930.
