After the destruction of the Zweites Kurhaus (Second Kurhaus Spa) by an air raid in March 1945, the city administration decided to tear down the building and rebuild it. The contract for the construction and the laying of the foundation stone occurred at the beginning of September 1950, and the building, whose theater had space for 850 audience members, was opened at the end of April 1952. However, complaints began to circulate in the 1970s about the new building, which no longer seemed sufficient for the city’s spa and congress business. These considerations finally led to demolition in 1981 and to yet another new building, the Viertes Kurhaus (Fourth Kurhaus Spa).
