English Church

From the beginning, the English have been the largest group of foreign spa guests in Homburg. Although Anglican church services were celebrated at the Homburg Schlosskirche palace church in the 1840s, these were soon no longer sufficient for the steadily growing number of visitors. There were even donation collections to build an Anglican church towards the end of the 1850s. After Landgrave Ferdinand donated the property in the area of the still young and sparsely developed neighborhood, construction began in 1861 based on plans drawn up by master architect Christian Holler. This was not finished until 1868. Presbyterian services of the Church of Scotland were now being held in the Lutheran city church. After secularization, the City Museum, which had previously been in the Kurhaus spa, was established in the English church in 1914. Today, the building is an event and cultural center.
