The data presented here is based on the work of the former Frankfurt city archivist, Dr. Joachim Fischer. Fischer had started his research into the history of the Hesse-Hanau regiments serving in the American War of Independence in the early 1960s. After his death in 2003, Fischer's widow consigned his extensive research materials to the Historische Kommission für Hessen. This body commissioned Dr. Stephan Schwenke and Dr. Johannes Koenig to transfer the information gathered on the members of the Hanau regiments – 1,666 individuals altogether – from Fischer's card boxes into a database. Of these, nearly 80 percent (i.e. 1,306 individuals) could be identified with soldiers recorded in the context of the HETRINA (HEssian TRoops IN America) project. We regret that the information from the Fischer database is only available in German.
